Outbreak of rabies in Chipata district has killed a seven year old boy of Mchini Compound.

An outbreak of rabies has hit Chipata district claiming the life of a seven year old boy of Mchini Compound.

Chipata District Commissioner, Kalunga Zulu has confirmed the outbreak of the deadly disease and the death of the boy who was bitten by a rabid dog on May 8th this year.

Mr. Zulu says that the boy died on Monday this week at Chipata General Hospital where he was taken for treatment.

He says that the Veterinary Department in Chipata district has confirmed that the boy died from rabies as the brain sample of the dog were taken to Lusaka at Viral Load Central Veterinary Research Institute where they tested positive.

And Mr. Zulu has advised members of the public to report all suspected rabid dogs to the Veterinary Department, Council and the police.

He has also advised people who may be beaten by rabid dogs against treating themselves at home.
