Over 3,000 people settled under land resettlement programme

Over 3,000 people who applied for settlement have been given land to settle in Eastern Province from the time the Land Resettlement Programme started in 1992.
Principal Land Resettlement Officer Lazarus Ngulube revealed this to Breeze News.
Mr Ngulube says that so far those who have settled have produced over 80,000 by 50 kilogramme bags of maize to their credit.
He says that in 2016 no one has applied for land resettlement because the year has just began but there is a possibility that some people will apply.
Mr Ngulube says that so far the number of applicants on the pending list stands at 30 adding that these have already been interviewed.
He further said that his department is still scouting for land where to settle them because all settlement schemes in Eastern Province are full.
Mr Ngulube says plans are underway to secure land in Vubwi, Mambwe, and Lundazi districts to resettle those on the pending list.
He added that to acquire land, one has to be a Zambian citizen, unemployed, contract worker, retired, retrenched, disabled and displaced while youths and woman also qualify.
