Over 470 cargos of various imported goods have been inspected at Chanida and Mwami borders during the first half of 2015.
This is out of 5, 954 product consignments inspected by ZABS, the Zambia Bureau of Standards at various points of entry in the country.
ZABS Head of Marketing and Public Relations, Hazel Zulu confirmed this in a press statement availed to Breeze News.
Mrs. Zulu says the products inspected include food products, fertilizer, electric appliances, textile materials, rubber and construction materials.
She says the products were inspected to ensure that they conform to the required Zambian standards and also to check that they are safe for consumption.
Mrs. Zulu has urged consumers to be conscious when buying products by looking at the manufacturing and expiring dates.
sHe added that consumers should also be mindful of products that are not labeled in English to avoid buying defective and dangerous products.
