Over 900 illegal immigrants were arrested in Eastern Province last year.

The Immigration Department in Eastern Province arrested over 900 foreigners last year.
Immigration Department Regional Officer, Moses Chimbala confirmed this to Breeze News.
Mr. Chimbala says that the more than 900 foreigners were of different nationalities.
He stated that the department is on the ground to arrest any prohibited immigrant with the help of various stakeholders.
Mr. Chimbala says his office is aware about some foreigners that come in the province to commit crime and urged people to report any suspected illegal immigrant to the relevant authorities.
The Provincial Immigration Officer also says that the department has established borders at Sindamisale and Zozwe in Vubwi district to curb illegal immigrants from Mozambique.
He added that the department is also manning borders at Mwase and Lusuntha in Lundazi to deal with immigrants that enter the province from Malawi.
Mr. Chimbala reiterated that it is a crime to harbour prohibited immigrants adding that anyone found to be housing an illegal immigrant will be arrested.
