Over 96 people arrested for drug offences countrywide

Over 96 people have been arrested countywide during the Heroes and Unity holidays for various drug offences.
Drug Enforcement Commission DEC Spokesperson, Theresa Katongo says those nabbed include Peter Phiri, 27, a peasant farmer of Mateyo Village in Mambwe District for trafficking in 12.6 kilograms of loose cannabis.
In Chama District, the Commission arrested and jointly charged Fred Bowa, 59, a peasant farmer of Maimebe Village and Frank Mutambo, 35, a peasant farmer of the same village for unlawful cultivation of 2.68 tonnes of fresh cannabis plants.
In a statement availed to Breeze News this morning, Ms. Katongo says in Lusaka, Reuben Soko, 40, a businessman of Mtendere East has been arrested for trafficking in 10 rocks of cocaine.
She also says that the DEC in Muchinga Province has seized 3.78 tonnes of fresh cannabis plants from Mpika and Chama Districts.
The DEC Spokesperson says that 92 others arrested are from the Copperbelt, Northern and Luapula provinces.
All the suspects will appear in court soon.
