Over K86,000 cash stolen from Mota Engil offices

Suspected thieves have broken into Mota- Engil Construction Company offices in Chipata and have gotten away with over 86,000 Kwacha cash.

Eastern province Police Commissioner Alex Chilufya says that it is believed that the criminals gained entry to the building and broke the safe where the money was being kept.

Mr. Chilufya explained that police received a report this morning that thieves had broken into an office of Mota-engil situated in Mtenguleni area along the Great East Road getting away with money amounting to between 86, 000 to 100, 000 Kwacha.

He added that nine guards were on duty when the incident happened but claimed not to have heard anyone breaking into the building.

He says that police are currently investigating the guards to establish the reason why they didn’t hear any noise when the building was being broken into.

Mr. Chilufya says police suspect that it could be an in house arrangement adding that there was no way nine guards couldn’t hear the noise when breaking was being done.
