Over nine thousand people in Chieftaines Nyanje’s area in Petauke district are drinking water from the same source with domestic animals.
The problem, which has badly hit people in Kanjiwa area, has been attributed to lack of boreholes.
Kanjiwa Community Health Worker, Agrippa Phiri disclosed this to Breeze News in Petauke district.
Mr. Phiri says that the 15 villages, which are facing the critical shortage of water, only have two boreholes.
He says that Chipundu, Chitumba, Mataya, Matambazi Kakonje, Watch and Yason are among the affected areas.
Mr. Phiri has appealed to government to intervene through drilling of boreholes.
And one of the villagers from Matambazi says women have to wake up as early as 03 hours to fetch the commodity from Matambazi stream before animals makes the water dirty.
