Paramount Chief Mpezeni has asked government to consider building universities in Eastern Province.
Speaking when he graced this year’s Zengani traditional ceremony of the Ngoni/Tumbuka speaking in Lundazi district yesterday, Chief Mpezeni indicated the need to have universities in the region.
The traditional ruler stated that government should consider building two universities so that children have easy access to higher education.
He further indicated that Lundazi should be one of the districts to have a university as more children should be educated than their parents.
Meanwhile speaking during the same occasion, General Education Minister, John Phiri said that government will remain committed in supporting tradition ceremonies across the country because they are key in uniting the nation.
Dr. Phiri stated that traditional ceremonies do not only remind Zambians about their origin or norms but also contributes greatly to the promotion of national unity.
He further indicated that societies that have weak culture are a recipe for endless chaos.
Dr. Phiri urged Senior Chief Magodi the fifth to continue uniting his subjects through Zengani traditional ceremony.
