The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in Lundazi district has warned people against fishing during the fish ban period.
Acting District Fisheries Officer, Elvis Silembo told Breeze News that effective 1st December, 2013 all rivers, dams and streams in the district were closed for fishing to the community.
Mr. Silembo says the ban has been necessitated to allow fish to breed and grow during this period.
He has advised traders dealing in both dry and fresh fish including kapenta to collect verification forms from the Department of Fisheries to verify the origin of their fish.
Mr Silembo however, says his office in conjunction with ZAWA, the Zambia Wildlife Authority have embarked on patrols in all the fishing communities.
He says that those found defying the fish ban risk being prosecuted before the courts of law.
