Petauke district has a shortage of four metric tons of maize seeds and chemicals to help farmers whose fields where attacked by army worms.
District Commissioner Elijah Mwale confirmed this to Breeze FM correspondent in Petauke, Mercy Maseko.
Mr. Mwale says that the shortage is because a lot of farmers’ fields in the district were attacked by the army worms.
He says that on Monday this week, about 9 metric tons of maize seed and some chemicals was given out to farmers in Kapoche and Msanzala Constituencies.
Mr. Mwale says that the number of farmers who still need assistance is high and that there is need for the Ministry of Agriculture to give the district more maize seed and chemicals.
And Mr. Mwale has urged farmers to continue reporting cases of army worms.
