Two candidates have successfully filed in their nomination papers in the Kakumbi local government by-election in Mambwe district, which is slated for August 6.
Returning Officer, Oscar Musonda has told Breeze News that those that have filed in are Isaiah Malipita for PF, the Patriotic Front Party and Mike Zulu for UPND, the United Party for National Development.
Mr. Musonda says that other candidates, who are expected to file in their nomination papers, are Maison Phiri for MMD and a candidate for UNIP, the United National Independence Party.
He however, says that the MMD candidate was supposed to file in his nomination papers at 10 hours but did not turn up.
Meanwhile MMD Mambwe District Chairperson, Zefeniya Kaleya says their candidate will file in between 12 and 14 hours.
Mr. Kaleya argued that the MMD candidate was not under any obligation to file in at the stated time.
The Kakumbi by-election has been sparked by former MMD Kakumbi councillor, Peter Phiri’s decision to ditch the former ruling party for UPND.
Mr. Phiri contested the just ended Malambo parliamentary by-election, which saw PF candidate, Jacob Shuma winning the seat.
