The Patriotic Front PF has won the Bangweulu parliamentary by election while the MMD has returned the Kakumbi local seat in Mambwe district.
In Bangweulu, PF’s Anthony Kasandwe got a landslide victory polling 9,516 votes against his closest rival for FDD, the Forum for Democracy and Development candidate, Robby Mwansa who polled 1,862 votes.
United Party for National Development UPND candidate Bulanko Muma was in the third place with 1,122 votes.
Muvi Television Staffer, Anthony Chomba reports that Returning Officer, Lister Lindaba declared Mr. Kasandwe duly elected Member of Parliament at about 04:40hrs.
Four other candidates from NAREP, Christian Democratic Party as well as two independent candidates participated in the parliament by election, which followed the death of Chifita Matafwali on May 20 this year.
Meanwhile in the Kakumbi local government by-election in Mambwe district, Breeze FM Staffer, Gift Phiri reports that MMD’s Maison Phiri polled 573 votes to beat his closest rival for PF who got 518 votes, while Mike Zulu for UPND settled for 239 votes.
