Police have arrested a woman of Magazine Compound in Chipata for dumping her still born baby in a pit latrine.

The fire brigade this morning retrieved a still born baby from a pit latrine in Magazine Compound of Chipata district.
Chipata Municipal Council, Chief Fire Officer, Fackson Mbewe who confirmed the incident, says that the still baby was retrieved around 07: 20 hours after a call from the police.
Mr. Mbewe named the mother of the baby as Christine Chamanzu aged 24 of Magazine Compound.
He says that the still baby believed to be of a 2 and half months old pregnancy was wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped in a pit latrine by its mother in the early hours of today.
Mr. Mbewe says that the mother of the baby is currently in police custody.
