Police in Chipata have arrested five people suspected to be involved in criminal activities in the district.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila confirmed the arrest of the suspects stating that they were being investigated for criminal activities.
She says the criminals were arrested on Monday between 17:00 and 18:00 hours at the Chipata Golf Club after alert police officers sealed the place.
Ms Chipalila says the suspected criminals were alleged to be committing criminal activities in the night while resting at the club during the day.
She says the police would charge the suspects once the investigations were concluded.
Meanwhile police have confirmed the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a motor vehicle near Mshawa area along Lundazi –Chipata Road on Monday around 18hours.
Police Spokesperson, Elizabeth Kanjela says that Gift Chibulma aged 32 of St. Margaret’s Girls High School, who was driving the vehicle, which hit the unidentified man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
