Police in Chipata give illegal vendors one day to relocate

Police say that they will not allow vendors to trade along the Umodzi Highway by tomorrow.
Eastern Province police commissioner, Eugine Sibote, told journalists that the vendors were asked to leave the road side, but have continued trading along the road, saying police may use force to remove them.
He says that the continued stay of the vendors along the road, is delaying progress of the works by the contractor.
Mr. Sibote says that the vendors have no option but to move away from the construction site to avoid any accidents as the contractor is using heavy machinery.
The vendors were given up to Saturday to stop trading along Umodzi Highway.
However, a check by Breeze News this morning found that they have continued selling their merchandise along the road.
The continued stay of the vendors has delayed works by Mota-Engel.
