Police officers in Eastern Province have been advised to desist from corrupt tendencies.
Home Affairs Deputy Minister Alfrida Kansembe says that police officers should instead assist government in its quest to fight corruption.
Mrs. Kansembe was speaking Friday evening at the annual ball for police officers held in Chipata.
The Home Affairs Deputy Minister says that police officers should lead exemplary lives so that members of the public can have greater confidence in them.
Mrs. Kansembe says that government will leave no room to officers who indulge themselves in corrupt tendencies.
She says that they can never be meaningful development in the country if corruption thrives because resources meant for development will end up in few people’s pockets.
Ms. Kansembe has also urged police officers to stay away from active politics stating that those who intend to join politics should resign from their duties as police officers.
