Police record two murder cases and a suicide

Police in Eastern Province have recorded four fatal accidents that occurred along the Great East Road yesterday and over the weekend.

And police also recorded two murder cases and one suicide case over the weekend in the Province.

Eastern Division Police Commissioner, Alex Chilufya confirmed this to Breeze News.

Mr. Chilufya says 14 year old Johnathan Phiri of Nyimba district who was cycling a road runner bicycle on the Great East Road was hit by a Mitsubishi Pajero driven by Golden Mukonda, an Officer from the Zambia Revenue Authority in Lusaka and died on the spot.

Mr. Chilufya added that an unknown cyclist died on the spot yesterday after being involved in a hit and run accident at Katete Scheme on the Great East Road.

The Police Chief added that Josephat Mwanza aged 25 died on the spot after being hit by an Isuzu Wizard Vehicle which was driven by Emmanuel Fulani near St. Francis Mission Hospital along the Great East Road over the weekend.

He also says a Pedestrian, Aziweli Phiri aged 52 of Petauke died on the spot over the weekend after being involved in a hit and run accident near M’tambazi Bridge on the Great East Road and police have launched a manhunt for the driver.

And 32 year old Peter Phiri of Ibex Compound in Katete was on Sunday murdered by Michael Banda 25 of Chibolya Compound.

Mr. Chilufya added that a 21 year old woman, Midiya Phiri of Kalomo Village has died from St. Francis Mission Hospital in Katete after being badly beaten by her husband, Ezekiel Phiri who is in police custody and charged with murder.

He added that 25 year old Saulosi Soko of Referendum area in Chipata committed suicide in his village in Vubwi district over the weekend by drinking poison after a marital dispute with his wife.
