Police in Chipata have warned people against harbouring illegal immigrants.
Eastern Province Deputy Police Commissioner, Diamond Likashi told Breeze News that it is the duty of members of the community to report any illegal immigrant to relevant authorities to avoid staying with people who may be criminals.
Mr. Likashi explained that some illegal immigrants have invaded the province due to various economic activities but that some of them do not come with good intentions.
Mr. Likashi advised people in the province to be following legal procedures when employing workers that are not Zambians.
He says that employers must ensure that they get NRCs, National Registration cards and finger prints from foreigners so that they are sure about the people they are employing.
Mr. Likashi says that police have intensified security in residential areas by patrolling at night and engaging the community to form neighbourhood watch groups.
