President Edgar Lungu says the Chipata-Mchinji Railway line will soon be connected to Tanzania-Zambia Railway line TAZARA.
Mr. Lungu said this ,last evening during a state banquet hosted for him and other government representatives by his Malawian counterpart, Arthur Peter Mutharika.
President Lungu said that government has made strides in joining the Chipata-Mchinji rail line to TAZARA ,adding that it will soon be a reality.
He said that the contractor assigned to work on the project will soon move on site to embark on the project.
Mr Lungu said that the Chipata-Mchinji railway line and the Zambezi Waterway are the two channels through which Zambia and Malawi can facilitate trade between the two countries.
The head of state appealed to the private sector to take advantage of the existing infrastructure in the two countries to develop partnership and joint ventures.
And speaking during the same occasion, Malawian President, Arthur Peter Mutharika said that Malawi attaches great importance to the friendship and cooperation which has developed with other countries.
Professor Mutharika paid tribute to multilateral and bilateral cooperating partners that have continued to stand with the Malawian government in developing the country.
He thanked President Edgar Lungu, Kenya’s Vice President, William Ruto and former Mozambican President Joachim Chissano for attending Malawi’s 51st Independence anniversary.
The head of state also encouraged all Malawians to be united, work hard and to be patriotic in developing Malawi, stating than no one would develop the country unless themselves.
The 51st independence celebration was commemorated under the theme “Towards Economic transformation and inclusive economic development in Malawi.”
