President Edgar Lungu calls for priority of girl child education

President Edgar Lungu says that girl child education should be taken as the first priority for the development of the country.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Chief Nyamphande at his palace this morning, Mr. Lungu says that he is happy that he was today launching the Gender Based Violence Centre in Chief Nyamphande’s area as a pilot project.
President Lungu says that it is disheartening to see that a lot of girls are still being married off at a tender age, which is leading into an increase in maternal deaths in the country.
The president has discouraged marrying off the girl child stating that they need to be taken to school if the country is to develop.
And Mr. Lungu has urged women to be taking part in political issues of the country.
And Chief Nyamphande has expressed happiness with the launch of a GBV Stop Centre in his chiefdom.
He says that this will help in reducing the cases of Gender Based Violence, early marriages and other related issues.
More than 50 chiefs around the country are present to witness the launch of the HE FOR SHE campaign, a crusade against gender inequality targeting male chiefs.
