President Edgar Lungu has appointed Steven Kampyongo and Greyford Monde as Cabinet Ministers.
And President Lungu has appointed Chawama Member of Parliament Lawrence Sichalwe as Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice-President.
According to a statement released to Breeze News by President Edgar Lungu’s spokesperson, Amos Chanda, Mr. Kampyongo is the new Minister of Local Government and Housing taking over from Dr. John Phiri who moves to the Ministry of General Education.
Mr. Monde is the new Minister for Fisheries and Livestock.
The President has also assigned Vice-President Inonge Wina as Minister for National Planning in addition to her current portfolio.
The Head of State has assigned Christopher Yaluma as Minister of Mines and Minerals Development.
The Ministers for Energy and Water Development and for Communications and Transport will be named in due course.
Yamfwa Mukanga remains as Minister for Works and Supply while Michael Kaingu has been assigned the new Ministry of Higher Education.
The changes are with immediate effect and the new appointees will be sworn-in tomorrow.
Meanwhile National Action for Quality Education in Zambia NAQEZ has welcomed the appointments of Dr. John Phiri and Dr. Michael Kaingu as ministers of General Education and Higher Education respectively.
Deputy Executive Secretary, Cyprian Phiri says NAQEZ hopes the two ministers can settle quickly to see to it that challenges the two ministries are facing are sorted out as soon as possible.
Mr. Phiri also says that Dr. Phiri should see to it that new teachers are employed in order to reduce teacher pupil ratio, which affects the quality of education in the country.
He says that Dr. Kaingu should address the problems of allowances and accommodation at Copperbelt University and University of Zambia.
