President Edgar Lungu has reiterated his commitment to delivering a new constitution in the shortest most practical time.Speaking during a Gala Dinner at the Law Association of Zambia’s 2015 Annual General meeting, President Lungu said that government remains committed to moving forward with the constitutional review process as outlined in the roadmap released.
He explained that his past record had proven that he has no fear to release the document in the shortest possible period.
President Lungu further observed that the judiciary system has suffered attacks from some members of the public, in regards to its independence and ability to deliver on its mandate as an arbitrator, and defender of human rights and freedom.
He expressed hope that the changes being instituted in the judiciary system and the recommendations to come from the ongoing legal and judicial reforms will bring about positive changes in the system.
And President Lungu charged that his government will not tolerate unwarranted attacks on the judiciary that seek to undermine its legitimacy.
The event was being held under the theme, Zambia at 50 – Independence of the judiciary and challenges of regulating the legal profession.
