President Michael Sata tells easterners to thank God for granting the country peace since 1964.

President Michael Sata has appealed to people in Eastern Province to join Zambians in other parts of the country in thanking God for granting the country peace since 1964.
In his message of Independence sent to the people of Eastern Province, the President says that it is by God’s grace that Zambians have continued to leave in peace.
The president has cautioned easterners against taking peace, unity and democracy that the country is enjoying for granted.
Meanwhile hundreds of people from all walks of life have gathered at David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata to celebrate Zambia’s 49th Independence.
And Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Childhood Minister, John Phiri has called on people in Eastern Province to respect one another despite having different political affiliations.
Dr. Phiri says that events like Independence are for all Zambians and should not be politicized.
He has also called on opposition political parties to work with government in bringing development to the province adding that government is committed to developing each and every party of the country.
Meanwhile all opposition political parties have shunned this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
Breeze FM Staffer, Naomi Mwimba from David Kaunda Stadium that only youths and women from the ruling PF, Patriotic Front participated in the independence match past.
This year’s independence is being held under the theme ‘Commemorating our independence with God’s favour with Continued Peace, Unity, Democracy and Prosperity.
