Prices of basic commodities in Chipata remain high.

Prices of basic commodities in Chipata have remained the same despite the Zambian Kwacha appreciating against the United States dollar.

And the Kwacha has made a further appreciation against other convertible currencies.

A check by Breeze Business News yesterday found that a 25 kilogramme bag of mealie meal is being sold at 100 Kwacha in most business outlets.

Only the government controlled mealie meal is being sold at 75 Kwacha for a 25 kilogramme bag.

The price of a 50 kilogramme bag of cement has however reduced from 65 Kwacha to between 60 and 62 Kwacha.

Meanwhile the exchange rate as of yesterday shows that the US dollar is now buying at 9 Kwacha 12 Ngwee and selling at 9 Kwacha 29 Ngwee while the British Pound is buying at 12 Kwacha 95 Ngwee and selling at 13 Kwacha 18 Ngwee.

The Euro is buying at 13 Kwacha 32 Ngwee and selling at 13 Kwacha 50 Ngwee.
