Lundazi District Council has been queried over its decision to allocate residential plots near Lundazi State Prison.
This came to light during the DDCC, District Development Coordinating committee meeting.
Lundazi District Prisons Officer in-charge Kamayoyo Songiso expressed concern over the development stating that construction of houses closer to the prison was a security risk especially to the community surrounding the prison.
He appealed to the district council to consider revisiting their plans before people start building.
But Acting Lundazi District Commissioner, Mukule Banda wondered why the prison department waited long to give advice to the local authority on the allocation of residential plots closer to the prison.
Mr. Banda noted that the situation has now become a complex issue especially to the district council as they will be required to engage Eastern Province Planning Authority over the matter adding that people were already ready to start constructing.
Mr. Banda advised the Prison Department to put the complaint in writing before the Lundazi District Council.
The land in question was previously used as a land reserve for the Civil Aviation which was later handed over to the Lundazi District Council.
