Residents of Kamwala Compound in Chadiza district have been given one month to dig pit latrines and rubbish pits or face penalties.
Kamwala Compound Chairman Nickson Phiri says that the residents should construct toilets of proper standards with hand washing facilities by September 30.
He told Breeze News that some residents have a tendency of answering the call of nature using plastic bags which he stated is a health hazard especially in the rainy season.
The Chairman warned that there will be stiff penalties by Chief Zingalume to those who will not adhere to the rule by 30th September when they will carry out a door to door inspection.
Mr. Phiri noted that the directive came from government to Chiefs that each household must have a toilet and a rubbish pit.
