The Movement for Multiparty Democracy, MMD has defended the Chipata Central Constituency parliamentary seat.
And UNPD, United Party for National Development has won the Solwezi East and Kafulafuta parliamentary seats while PF, Patriotic Front has scooped the Mkushi North parliamentary seat.
In Chipata, MMD candidate, Reuben Mtolo Phiri polled 8, 186 votes, to beat his rival, Lameck Mangani of PF, the Patriotic Front who got 5, 913 votes.
This means that Mr. Mtolo Phiri beat Mr. Mangani with 2273 votes.
Returning Officer Michael Ngulube, declared Mr. Mtolo Phiri as dully elected Member of Parliament for Chipata Central Constituency around 24:30 hours.
United National Independence Party, UNIP candidate Elina Nyirenda, was in the distant third position with 462, while Kazembe Daka of NAREP, the National Restoration Party got 91 votes.
Penelope Jean Nkunika, an independent candidate, only managed to get 20 votes.
And Mr. Mtolo Phiri said that his victory has vindicated him.
Mr. Mtolo said that while he accepted the court’s ruling, the MMD carried out a clean campaign in 2011.
He thanked UPND, the United Party for National Development for helping him in his campaigns and the people of Chipata Central Constituency for voting for him.
Mr. Mtolo Phiri, however, said that a lot of money has been wasted during the by-election, which could be used for other developmental projects.
He promised people of Chipata Central Constituency that he will deliver on the promises he made.
Meanwhile, MMD President, Nevers Mumba says that he believes Mr. Mtolo Phiri’s win is the beginning of a new political revolution, which will change the land scape in Zambia.
Dr. Mumba said that the win should give the PF a signal that the MMD is still very strong.
He said that the MMD will continue winning elections until it wins the 2016 presidential elections.
Dr. Mumba said that people of Chipata Central Constituency have made a right choice for voting for Reuben Mtolo Phiri of MMD.
Meanwhile, the United Party for National Development, UPND has scooped the Kafulafuta Parliamentary by-election.
UPND candidate, Brian Chitafu pooled 2, 504 votes beating his rival, PF’s James Chishiba who got 2, 407 votes.
National Restoration Party, NAREP candidate, Jimmy Kasabwa came out third with 329 votes, while MMD’s Eva Mwanawasa got 32.
In Solwezi East UPND candidate Villy Lumbanya polled 3, 127 votes to beat his closest rival Peter Illunga for PF who got 1,774 votes.
In Mkushi North PF candidate Ingrid Mulondwe Mphande got 3,838 votes to beat MMD’s Jonathan Kapungwe who polled 1,366 votes. UPND candidate Winter Libbohole got 899 votes.
