A 40 year old woman has died on the spot while five other passengers sustained multiple body injuries when the vehicle they were in was involved in a road accident in Lundazi district.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila confirmed the fatal accident in Lundazi.
She says that Valinase Phiri of Kalopa Compound in Lundazi district died on the spot.
Ms. Chipalila says the accident, which involved a Toyota Hilux registration number ALD 9356, happened yesterday along Lundazi -Lusuntha border road.
She said the vehicle, which was driven by Gilbert Mulenga aged 38 of Messengers’ Compound in Lundazi, had five passengers on board and was coming from Mbwandila market
situated along Zambia-Malawi border.
She says that the accident happened when the driver lost control resulting in the vehicle overturning in the process.
Ms. Chipalila says the body of Valinase Phiri is still in Lundazi district hospital mortuary waiting for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death.
She disclosed that police have since apprehended Mulenga and detained him in police custody awaiting appearance in court soon.
He has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving contrary to the laws of Zambia.
