Self proclaimed Chief Tindi takes over a local forest in Mambwe District.

Confusion has emerged between a man claiming to be Chief Tindi and the Forestry Department in Mambwe District.
Acting District Forestry Officer, Christor Gondwe, says that the man is illegally allocating land to people in the Nyakatokoli local Forest.
Breeze FM Staffer, Gift Phiri reports from Mambwe that Mr. Gondwe explained that most of those who have encroached the forest are from Chadiza and Katete districts.
He says investigations have revealed that some of the people who have encroached the forest allegedly pay cattle to the self-proclaimed Chief Tindi in order to be given land.
Mr. Gondwe however, warned that the department has talked to the 128 illegal settlers and will soon move in to evict them.
And a check by Breeze News found big pieces of land have been cleared for farming purposes, with some illegal settlers freely going about their business.
And Brown Phiri of Tsokalanhuku Village said it is frustrating that people coming from other districts are encroaching the forest.
He appealed to government to ensure that the villagers are evicted before more get in as Tindi is reported to be inviting more people.
