Seven candidates out of twelve yesterday managed to successfully file in their nominations for the Mayoral position for Chipata district.
Returning Officer, Samuel Phiri announced that the successful candidates who presented their valid qualifications and managed to pay a nomination fee of five thousand kwacha for the Mayoral nominations were seven out of twelve reflecting on the nomination list.
The successful candidates are Musa Gear Nyirenda of the UPND, Malesi Phiri Mvula of FDD, Kelvin Steven Floyd of UNIP, Sinoya Mwale of PF, Bresford Nyondo of MMD, Mathews Mwale and Charles Million Tembo independent candidates.
And the aspiring Chipata Municipal Council Mayors expressed confidence that they will win the seat and address challenges facing the council.
The Green Party, Democratic Assembly and two independent candidates that were appearing on the nomination list did not show up to file in their nomination papers.
Meanwhile, Returning Officer, Samuel Phiri rejected the application of Rainbow party candidate, Johnathan Mazyopa because he did not manage to pay a nomination fee of five thousand Kwacha.
And FODEP, Foundation for Democratic Process Provincial Chairperson, Eunice Mwenge expressed happiness that the Mayoral nominations were held in a peaceful manner without any form of violence.
Six people have successfully filed in their nomination papers for the Lundazi District Council chairmanship.
Lundazi Constituency Returning Officer Philemon Lungu announced the successful applicants by about 17:30 hours yesterday.
Mr. Lungu who indicted that no papers were rejected said that those who filed in their nomination papers are Maggie Mkandawire for PF, Prisca Mtonga for MMD and Majore Mumphanshya for UPND.
Others are Scout Zulu for FDD, Jeremiah Nyirenda and Davies Nyirongo who are contesting as independent candidates.
Meanwhile in Chadiza District, Raphael Phiri for UPND and Paul Phiri for PF are the two candidates competing for the position of council chairman after successfully filing in their nomination papers.
