Three candidates yesterday successfully filed in their nomination papers for the Petauke Central parliamentary by-election slated for June 30.
UNIP candidate Igenious Phiri was first to file in his papers at about 10:30 hours and was followed by UPND candidate, Allan Zulu.
PF’s Dora Siliya also filed in her nomination papers at Petauke District Council Chamber in the afternoon.
Confusion characterised the filing in of nominations after a fracas ensued between PF and UPND cadres, which forced police to move in to quell the misunderstanding.
And in Malambo Constituency, four candidates successfully filed in their nomination papers.
The four are Jairos Mchenga from UNIP, Peter Simon Phiri from UPND, Jack Shuma from Patriotic Front and independent candidate, Florence Mwayopa.
Meanwhile confusion engulfed the MMD camps in Petauke Central and Malambo after party leader, Nevers Mumba told the candidates to pull out because the former ruling party would not contest the parliamentary by-elections.
Jacob Mwanza for Petauke and Zephaniah Kaleya for Malambo were left in a state of shock with the 11th hour decision by their party president.
