Severe hunger has hit Chief Chitungulu’s area in Lundazi district.

Severe hunger has hit Chief Chitungulu’s area in the valley of Lundazi district, forcing villagers to survive on boiled mangoes.
Lumimba Ward Councillor Alex Banda confirmed the development to Breeze News yesterday.

Mr. Banda stated that the situation on food insecurity has continued worsening in the chiefdom as the area did not yield enough due to poor rains recorded during the last farming period.
He stated that villagers have resorted to boiling mangoes because it is the only way to survive, a situation he described as unacceptable.
Mr. Banda expressed concern over government’s continued delay to take relief maize to the area as roads become impassable during the rainy season.
But Lundazi District Commissioner Janet Palukani denied receiving any reports of people surviving on boiled mangoes.
Ms. Palukani however, stated that her office is doing everything possible to start distributing relief maize to the valley areas including Chitungulu.
