Government has expressed concern over shoddy works and abandonment of projects by local contractors in the recent past.
Eastern Province Assistant Secretary Royd Tembo says some local contractors have a tendency of doing shoddy works and abandoning projects even after they have been paid the money.
He was speaking during the closure of the NCC, National Council for Construction workshop in Chipata yesterday.
Mr. Tembo however, says that government will not hesitate to liquidate the debt owed to contractors who perform quality works.
And Mr Tembo says the holding of the NCC workshop was to equip the contractors with knowledge, which is critical for their survival and prosperity in the construction sector.
He says that the government is eager to have Zambian contractors participate in infrastructure development of the country.
Mr. Tembo says government is hopeful that the modules covered during the workshop will help to encourage local contractors change their altitude towards works and projects that they sign with the government.
