Sinoya Mwale is first executive mayor for Chipata

Patriotic Front PF party’s Sinoya Mwale has won the Chipata district Mayoral seat after polling 53,847 votes in the just ended general elections.

Chipata District Returning Officer, Davies Musenge declared Mr. Mwale the duly elected mayor for Chipata district yesterday at Chipata Municipal Council.

Mr. Mwale beat his closest rival, Charles Million Tembo, an independent candidate who polled 17,277 votes.

Musa Gear Nyirenda from the UPND was in the third position with 13,991 votes while MMD’s Bresford Nyondo came fourth with 6,545 votes.

Independent candidate, Mathews Phiri was in the fifth position with 2,886 votes while FDD’s Malesi Mvula polled 2,811 votes putting her in the sixth position. Floyd Kelvin from UNIP was at the bottom with 2,660 votes.

And Mr. Musenge says the council will hold an inauguration ceremony for the new mayor in a months’ time.
