Sisinje Ward Councillor, Samuel Lugomo Phiri rubbishes reports that his seat has been nullified.

Sisinje Ward Councillor, Samuel Lugomo Phiri in Chipata has dismissed reports that his seat has been nullified.
Mr. Phiri says that his seat can only be nullified by the courts of law or ECZ, the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
Mr. Phiri, who attended a full council meeting held yesterday in Chipata, further dismissed statements that he was attending council meetings illegally because he is no longer a civic leader.
The Sisinje Ward councillor was expelled from MMD, the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy earlier this year but he has contested his expulsion.
And Provincial Electoral Officer, Macloid Nyirenda says that ECZ has not received any official communication from Chipata Municipal Council that Mr. Phiri is no longer a councillor.
Mr. Nyirenda indicated that until ECZ receives official communication, it was difficult to state if Mr. Phiri’s seat has been nullified.
But MMD Provincial Chairperson, Jacob Mwanza says that Mr. Phiri is not an MMD member and therefore ceases to be councillor for Sisinje.
Mr. Mwanza charged that Mr. Phiri stopped being councillor for Sisinje Ward when he was expelled from the MMD for insubordination among other reasons.
