Some tobacco buying companies have been stopped from buying tobacco at Chipata main floor due to poor classification.
Tobacco Board of Zambia TBZ Regional Inspector, Herold Siandula has confirmed the development to Breeze News.
Mr. Sinadula says that TBZ yesterday stopped the companies from buying tobacco from farmers because their classification was bad leading to low buying prices.
He says that some companies have been offering as low as 30 cents for the lowest grade, which is unfair on the part of farmers.
Mr. Siandula says that the companies will not use the TBZ run floors until they improve on their classification so that farmers are given a good price.
And Mr. Sinadula says that companies, which are offering good classification like JTI, have continued to buy tobacco from farmers.
