People living with disabilities in Eastern Province have described as unfortunate, the ignorance being displayed by some government officers in regards to the Disability ACT of 2012.
Speaking to Breeze News, Eastern Centre for Young People with Disabilities chairperson, David Lungu, observed that some officers in the region seem to be incompetent in dealing with issues affecting the disabled in the province.
Mr. Lungu says that most of the people living with disabilities have not been included on the list of beneficiaries for the Social Cash Transfer Scheme.
He wondered whether the government has statistics to show how many disabled people are in the Eastern Region.
Mr. Lungu bemoaned seeing disabled women begging on the streets with their children.
He however, commended First Lady, Esther Lungu, for being the first wife to a president in Zambia to show tremendous support to people living with disabilities.
Mr. Lungu urged other stakeholders to consider supporting the First Lady in her bid to uplift the lives of people with disabilities.
