Some schools in Katete district have defied government directive not to sell school uniforms to pupils.
Speaking to Breeze News, some parents have expressed concern that school authorities are forcing parents to buy the uniforms at exorbitant price.
One of the parents says authorities at a named school have threatened to deduct 235 Kwacha from the money, which pupils paid for school fees.
He indicated that 235 Kwacha was too much for buying uniforms stating that in normal circumstances parents spend less that 150 Kwacha on uniforms.
The parents have appealed to the Ministry of Education to visit schools in Katete district, stating that they do not have money to buy the expensive uniforms.
And when contacted, Provincial Education Officer, Thomas Mwanza expressed shock at the big amount of money, which the school is asking pupils to pay for uniforms.
Mr. Mwanza promised to investigate the matter.
