Some traders continue to avoid selling government controlled mealie meal.

Some retail traders at Kapata market in Chipata have maintained their decision to stop selling mealie-meal which has a government controlled price.

This follows a decision by government to intervene in the prices of mealie-meal produced by millers who buy subsided maize from FRA, the Food Reserve Agency.

A check by Breeze News at Kapata market, found most shops having only stocks of breakfast mealie-meal which they are selling at 105 Kwacha per 25 kilogram bag.

The situation has however put pressure on the traders who are failing to maintain stocks.

A check by Breeze News at the two supermarkets that are open in Town found that they ran out of 25 kilogram bags of mealie-meal last week.

The ten kilogram bags that are available in the shops are being sold at 38 Kwacha and 42 Kwacha respectively.

Other prices of breakfast mealie-meal are indicating that mothers pride is being sold at 88 kwacha while Banja is 75 kwacha per 25 kilogram bag.
