TBZ keeps farmers waiting for payment

The Tobacco Board of Zambia TBZ has not yet been paid for the 1.1 kilogrammes of tobacco sold to a Malawian Company.

TBZ Chief Executive Officer, Samson Muyembe said this in an interview with Breeze News.

Responding to concerns from some farmers in Chipata over the delayed payment, Mr. Muyembe appealed for patience.

He says that TBZ managed to transport all the 1.1 kilogrammes of tobacco which has been bought by the Malawian based company Premium Tama.

The tobacco was stuck at the sheds for a long time after TBZ faced serious challenges to find market for the produce, which was bought from independent growers.

Meanwhile Mr. Muyembe says that this year’s tobacco marketing season will open in April.

He stated that the market in Eastern Province will open at the same time with other markets in the country.
