TBZ revises buying prices for tobacco

Tobacco Board of Zambia TBZ has revised the buying price for tobacco following an outcry from independent tobacco growers.

TBZ Chief Executive Officer, Samson Muyembe has confirmed stating that the highest quality of tobacco will now be bought at 26 Kwacha per kilogramme instead of 16 Kwacha.

Speaking to Breeze News this morning, Mr. Muyembe explained that the lowest quality of tobacco will still be bought at 4 Kwacha per kilogramme.

He however, says that farmers need to understand that TBZ will not extend the buying period of two weeks because it wants to avoid inflow of tobacco from neighbouring countries.

And Mr. Muyembe has warned that TBZ will not buy tobacco from vendors but genuine farmers, who are registered with TBZ.
