Government has warned that teachers involving themselves in partisan politics will be disciplined.
General Education Minister, Dr. John Phiri said this when he addressed teachers and pupils at Chipata’s Lutembwe Secondary School.
Dr Phiri says that there is need for teachers to desist from engaging in partisan politics in order to maintain high professional standards.
He stated that his Ministry has been transferring teachers who engage in politics but will now take appropriate action against those that abrogate civil service rules and regulations.
Dr Phiri observed that teachers in the country have lost dignity even from pupils because they engage themselves in partisan politics.
And Dr Phiri said that government is upgrading some primary schools because the number of secondary schools in the country is not adequate to accommodate all pupils from the primary schools.
He said that there were about 8, 000 primary schools against 800 secondary schools in the country.
