Ten million US dollars is needed to put up a dry port at the Chipata-Mchinji Railway station.

Government says 10 million US dollars is needed to put up a dry port and other facilities at Chipata –Mchinji railway line station.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo told Breeze News today that this is because there are a number of facilities which need to be put up at the dry port.
Mr. Kasolo says that the dry port will need warehouses and an offloading and loading bay for heavy duty cargo such as vehicles and copper.
He says the provincial administration will work hand in hand with ZRL, the Zambia Railways Limited to draw up a solid plan for the dry port.
Mr. Kasolo explained that the dry port once constructed is going to transform Eastern Province in terms of economic activities.
He says construction of the dry port will be supported with the improvement of the Great East Road under the Nacala Corridor Road project.
And Mr Kasolo revealed that a new bridge is going to be constructed across Luangwa River to handle heavy imported goods.
