The body of the late Roman Catholic Cardinal, Joseph Merdado Mazombwe, which arrived in Chipata yesterday, has been flown back to Lusaka.
This is in readiness for the burial which will take place tomorrow at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus.
A Zambia Air Force, ZAF plane carrying the Cardinal’s Body departed from Chipata at exactly 11 hours.
The body was accompanied by Chipata Diocese Bishop, George Zumaile Lungu, former Chief Justice Ernest Sakala, priests and nuns from the Catholic Church.
And speaking before departure for Lusaka, Bishop Lungu thanked government and church members for the support rendered during the mourning period for the late Cardinal.
Bishop Lungu urged Christians to continue praying for the church during this trying moment.
Various people from Chipata this morning paid their last respect to the Cardinal at St. Anne’s Cathedral.
