The Food Reserve Agency in Chipata might not meet its maize purchase target.

Chipata district may not meet its target to purchase 365 thousand by 50 kilogram bags of maize from farmers this marketing season.
District Agriculture Officer, Michael Ngulube says that this is because the maize buying by FRA, the Food Reserve Agency is moving at a slow pace as most farmers are not taking their maize to the depots.
Mr. Ngulube says that the most depots that buy large quantities of maize in the district like Mugubudu and Nsanjika have not bought anything to date.
He says that from the target of 365 thousand by 50 kilogram bags of maize, the district has only managed to buy about 110 thousand by 50 kilogram bags of maize since the marketing season opened in July.
The maize marketing season is expected to close by the end of next month.
