The Food Reserve Agency in Eastern Province has transferred over two thousand seven hundred tonnes of maize from buying depots to holding depots.
This is out of about over 7 thousand bags of maize in various depots across the province.
This is according to information availed to Breeze News by the FRA regional office.
Only about three hundred and sixty bags are still outside sheds.
However, officials at FRA office explained that the number is expected to reduce considerably.
They explained that FRA has started transporting the maize early enough before the rainy season, to ensure that no maize rots.
In the recent past, people have been calling on FRA to start transporting maize from depots that have no proper sheds, to protect the maize from getting socked, in case it starts raining.
And FRA regional marketing coordinator, Godfrey Munyoro hinted that the agency is expecting to receive more money to pay farmers soon.
