The Food Reserve Agency, FRA, in Lundazi District has purchased 9,000 by 50 kilogramme maize of white maize.
This is from the targeted 256,000 by 50 kilogramme bags of maize, which is supposed to be bought from farmers in the district.
Lundazi district agricultural coordinator, Philemon Lungu says that the purchase is from the 19 satellites depots where the agents are buying maize.
Mr Lundu revealed that payment of small scale farmers that supplied maize to the agency is expected to start today.
He further explained that this year the agency is expected not to experience a lot of problems in terms of payments to farmers.
This is because most of the maize has been bought by the private companies following the removal of maize subsidies.
And Mr Lungu indicated that the agency has started transporting the maize bought from farmers to the main storage sheds in the district.
