The Food Reserve Agency FRA in Katete District is set to buy about 300,000 by 50 kilogramme bags of white maize during the 2014/2015 maize marketing exercise.
District Crop Marketing Assistant, Josephine Phiri told Breeze News that the agency will buy from small scale farmers from the 19 satellite depots dotted across the district.
Ms. Phiri indicated that the number of satellite depots has reduced from last year’s 22, while the target for maize purchase has been increased from the previous 259, 000 in 2013.
Mphangwe, Kazakalowa, Gaven, Mkaika, Vulamkoko and Msolo are among the satellite depots where the agency will buy maize from starting July 1st.
And Ms. Phiri says that FRA in Katete is ready to start buying maize as most requisites such as empty grain bags, scales and twin have been dispatched to marketing centres.
She however, indicated that maize moisture content is at 12.9 per cent and there is need to wait so that it can drop to the recommended 12.5 per cent.
