The maize marketing season is expected to be launched this weekend.

Government is expected to launch the maize marketing season this weekend.
Reacting to concerns raised over the delays to launch this year’s maize marketing season, Provincial Agricultural Coordinator, Obvious Kabinda, explained that buyers have already been engaged and already stationed at their respective depots.
Dr. Kabinda says that the ministry was still putting logistics in place to ensure a smooth flow of activities.
He appealed to farmers to remain calm as they wait for the launch of the marketing season.
Various stakeholders have questioned why the marketing season has taken long to be announced by government, stating that private buyers were taking advantage to exploit farmers with poor maize buying prices.
But Dr. Kabinda has assured that the ministry in Eastern Province is ready to start buying the crop and that all they are waiting for is the official launch.
