Provincial minister Malozo Sichone has congratulated the media in Eastern Province for their hard work.
In an exclusive interview with Breeze News, Mr. Sichone says that the media have contributed a lot in the development of Eastern province through providing useful information.
He says that as journalists celebrate World Press Freedom Day, government assures them that it will remain committed to protection of journalists from any harassment.
Mr. Sichone stated that the government is also committed to upholding press freedom.
He says that the media has operated more freely under the PF, Patriotic Front government.
The minister has challenged the media in the province to remain united and ensure that they contribute to national development.
This year’s World Press Freedom Day is being commemorated under the theme ‘““Free media equals Development’.
Meanwhile some Chipata residents have advised political cadres to stop harassing journalists.
Felix Mkonde says that he has observed that journalists have become victims of attacks from cadres of various political parties in the country.
Mr. Mkonde has appealed to government to enact the Freedom of Information Bill so that scribes can be protected from harassment.
